Magari poter essere una speranza. Mi chiamo Manuel Martinati e sono il fondatore della piccola casa di produzione: La Terrazza. La Mission della Terrazza è di aiutare i giovani registi a realizzare i loro cortometraggi senza dover passare per i bandi e lasciarli liberi nelle loro scelte artistiche, fornendo supporto tecnico (se serve) e quello economico.
Cosa pensi debba cambiare nel cinema?
Il cinema è diviso in due parti: quello merce (che non conosce crisi,anzi) e un cinema-arte che attualmente è costretto a vivere di sussidi. Va ripensato completamente come tipo di spettacolo prima ancora che come contenuti. Da questo punto di vista il cinema ha avuto molte evoluzioni (magistralmente ricordate da Marco Ferreri nella sua ultima opera: Nitrato D'argento), non bisogna aver paura di ripensamenti anche radicali della modalità di fruizione dell'opera stessa.
Cosa dovrebbe cambiare a livello di produzione e distribuzione?
La produzione va insieme alla distribuzione, il problema più grande è presente nella distribuzione, non solo perchè essa è bloccata da logiche di potere, ma anche dal calo di interesse da parte del pubblico nell'andare al cinema e anche un calo generalizzato dall'attenzione del pubblico stesso (non limitato solo al pubblico giovane) dato dal bombardamento quotidiano di informazioni via social e quant altro. Penso sia diventato difficile portare le persone in sala e farle stare 2 ore.
Non deve essere più un tabu portare il cinema fuori dalla sala. Magari proponendo opere più brevi come cortometraggi e mediometraggi. La sfida più grande sarà quella di rendere economicamente sostenibile questa nuova forma di spettacolo.
Che consigli dai ai giovani artisti? Di tornare sui contenuti, di riflettere sulla realtà (pur nella difficoltà di decodificare l'attualità) di trovare qualcosa da dire su quel che ci accade attorno. Temo maestra tecnica e il talento narrativo non bastino più.
Progetti Futuri.
Al di la delle opere che abbiamo in cantiere, appena l'incubo del covid finirà sia come pandemia che come paura, mi piacerebbe trovare qualche formula nuova di spettacolo che possa permettere agli autori di esprimersi artisticamente ed essere un modello da seguire in generale, ma... per scaramanzia non dico altro.
Manuel Martinati coinvolge nuovi giovani artisti, è un innovatore, partendo dal cinema del passato ed arrivando a nuove ottiche di spettacolo, produzione e distribuzione.

Honestly, I wish I could represent hope for the younger generation. My name is Manuel Martinati and I am the founder of a small production company named "La Terrazza". Our objective is to aid young artists into being able to make their own short films without having to go through notices, while all the same giving them the opportunity to own their artistic decisions, offering both technical and financial support, if needed.
What do you think should change in the Movie Industry?
The movie industry is divided into two sections: merchandise (which is far from risking a crisis) and a second part strictly dedicated to the artistic side of movies. Unfortunately, in the present time, the latter is forced to live off subventions. Thus, the whole typology of entertainment should be revised, before adjusting its content. From this perspective, the movie industry has had many evolutions throughout the years (masterfully highlighted by Marco Ferrari in his last piece: Nitrato D'argento). We shouldn't fear even the most radical revisions in regards to the exploitation and divulgation of the work itself.
What should change in regards to production and distribution?
Production and distribution go hand in hand. The major problem concerns distribution as not only it is inhibited by power structures, the level of interest has also drastically decreased both in regards to the public's desire of attending movie theaters and the general lack of interest in seeking information outside of social media platforms. I believe that by now, the difficulty lies in being able to make people sit in a theater for two hours straight. Divulging our productions outside of the movie theater should no longer be complex. Perhaps, by proposing shorter projects such as short and medium length films could be a clever option. As a matter of fact, the toughest challenge would be to render this new form of entertainment financially accessible.
If you could give an advice to younger artists, what would it be?
Definitely to revise their content, to ponder on our reality (despite how difficult it may be to decipher today's world), to make an effort into finding something truthful to say on what is happening around us. Unfortunately, I fear that technical mastery and sheer talent are no longer enough.
Future Projects.
Other than the projects we aree already actively working on, as soon as this covid nightmare comes to an end - the pandemic as well as the grave fear it has spread - I would like to find a new entertainment formula that could allow authors to express themselves artistically and perhaps become actual role models. For superstition, I'm not going so say any further.
